As a reminder, The SELARC Hamfest on January 18, 2020, and the club is still in need of many more ticket sales. Please contact Ernie Bush to obtain more tickets to sell or email us to request.
Make sure you are signed up to work the Hamfest or contact Tyrone [email protected] to sign up, and sell as many tickets as you can! Also remember that those current members who take and turn in paid sales of the most $5 tickets -- minimum of 20 or more tickets by end of the day before the Hamfest receive special thanks and the incentive of 1-year dues-free extension of SELARC membership.
The 4 main prizes for tickets also listed on the SELARC Hamfest page - main prize winners do not need to be present at the drawing and if a non-ham wins can receive the cash value equivalent shown in place of item, prizes include:

Hammond VE Group - ARRL/W5YI tests are scheduled for the last Sunday of each month [with the exception of holiday conflicts] in Room "B" of the North Oaks Medical System Diagnostic Center at 2pm with $15 testing fee. Well, here we are,
a new year ahead of us and the 39th Annual, SELARC Hammond Hamfest in our sights!
We still need to get out and sell advance tickets and get the word out on as many local nets as possible, to get a great turn-out for this event.
Also, we still need people to sign-up for the Hamfest duties and work schedule if you haven't already. We really need member participation to make this event a success!!! Table reservations are slowly coming in.
Ham World will be our main radio and goodies vendor, so if you are in need of a particular item from them, give them a call and make arrangements for them to bring it down when they come. It is a great way to save on shipping cost!!!
Other vendors at this time will be TN07 Engineering, Sign-Man of Baton Rouge , Macs Computers, and Navi-Com USA!

President Tyrone N5XES called the meeting to order and lead in the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a self-introduction/recognition of all present.
It was m/s/passed to accept minutes for the November meeting as published in the "Hamster".
Treasurer Ernie Bush N5NIB gave a financial report. It was m/s/passed to accept the financial report.

SELARC Hammond Hamfest
Tyrone N5XES urged members again to sell prize tickets and see Ernie about more tickets to sell.
The Hamfest duties list was put out and made available for members to review and sign up.
Chamber of Commerce A motion made in November to consider SELARC joining Chamber of Commerce is still tabled for discussion at a future meeting.

==> FCC Formally Adopts Proposals to Remove Amateur 3 GHz Band, Invites Comments
The FCC's plan to remove "existing non-federal secondary radiolocation and amateur allocations" in the 3.3 - 3.55 GHz band and relocate incumbent non-federal operations already has begun drawing fire. The Commission formally adopted the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) in WT Docket 19-348 on December 12 and invited comments on appropriate "transition mechanisms" to make the spectrum available for mobile and fixed wireless broadband use.
ARRL plans to oppose the move. The amateur 9-centimeter allocation is 3.3 - 3.5 GHz.
"By proposing to delete the existing non-federal secondary allocations from the 3.3 - 3.55 GHz band, we are taking an important initial step towards satisfying Congress's directives and making as much as 250 megahertz of spectrum potentially available for advanced wireless services, including 5G," the FCC said in the Introduction to its NPRM...
==> AztechSat-1 CubeSat to Demonstrate Intra-Satellite Communication
The AztechSat-1 CubeSat, which traveled to the International Space Station (ISS) earlier this month on the 19th Space-X Commercial Resupply Services (CRS-19) mission for NASA, will listen for emergency messages in the 439 MHz range and retransmit them for amateur radio operators to copy on its 437.300 MHz downlink using the Winlink protocol, once the CubeSat has been placed into orbit. The satellite is a project of Mexico's Universidad Popular Autónoma del Estado de Puebla (UPAEP). Aztechsat-1 is set for deployment from the ISS in late January. ...
==> FCC Amending Amateur Radio RF Exposure Safety Rules
The FCC is amending its Part 97 Amateur Service rules relating to RF exposure safety. In a lengthy document in ET Docket 19-226 released on December 4 and addressing a broad range of RF safety issues, the FCC said current amateur radio RF exposure safety limits will remain unchanged, but that the amateur-specific exemption from having to conduct an RF exposure evaluation will be replaced by the FCC's general exemption criteria.
Radio amateurs have always had to comply with RF exposure limits, but certain stations have been exempt from having to conduct evaluations based only upon power and frequency.
==> ARRL Asks FCC to Dismiss Petition Seeking Declaratory Ruling on Encoded Message Rule
ARRL has asked the FCC to dismiss a Petition for Declaratory Ruling filed by New York University (NYU), that in ARRL's view proposes a new interpretation of the rule -- Section 97.113(a)(4) -- prohibiting "messages encoded for the purpose of obscuring their meaning." In its December 2 filing, ARRL said NYU's call to "clarify" the rule's meaning to prohibit "effectively encrypted or encoded messages, including messages that cannot be readily decoded over the air for true meaning," is not only vague but could weaken the prohibition against encryption.
ARRL pointed out that the FCC rule prohibiting "messages encoded for the purpose of obscuring their meaning," is essentially the same as what appears in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Radio Regulations applying to all countries. ARRL made clear that it continues to support rules prohibiting encrypted messages on the amateur bands, even for limited emergency communication purposes, and the ARRL Board reiterated that opposition last July...
==> A 600 W Broadband HF Amplifier Using Economically Priced LDMOS Devices
Razvan Fatu, M0HZH/YO9IRF, has designed and built a 600 W broadband HF amateur radio amplifier that uses a pair of low-cost MRF300 LDMOS (laterally diffused metal-oxide semiconductor) MOSFET devices. LDMOS devices are widely used in RF power amplifiers. Fatu's model A600, now at version 1.2, was designed to demonstrate the capabilities of MRF300s as linear broadband devices in the 2 - 50 MHz range. ...

In conjunction with the launch of its new On the Air magazine, which is aimed at those just beginning their journey in amateur radio, ARRL is reconfiguring its podcast lineup.
